I was born in Tanzania, grew up in England and have lived and worked in France, America and India. Influences from these places have shaped my cultural identity and are important contributing factors forming critical questions in relation to my own journey back to England. Returning in 2016, following an absence of twenty-three years, a month after the Brexit vote.

The last seven of those years away were spent in India and particularly shaped the themes I explore through my practice. Both in India and England, I was confronted with questions, doubts and fears around attitudes and representations of race and cultural identity in an increasingly antagonistic and monocultural global society.
